There was no action in the top flight of the Mayo League last weekend - but there were games for both Ballina Town and Westport United in the Connacht FA Champions Cup at the quarter-final stage. Ballina Town saw off Athenry FC 6-1 and Westport United were 3-1 winners away to Mervue United, setting up the semi-final this weekend away to Carbury FC on Sunday at 2pm.

Ballina Town and Manulla sit top of division one of the Masters League after an entertaining night in Solar 21 Park on Wednesday last. The night started with a rip roaring contest between local rivals Westport United and Fahy Rovers. United were ahead 1-0 at the break but found themselves 3-2 down midway through the second period. Late goals secured a 4-3 victory. David Cameron and Vinnie O’Malley each hit a double to give Westport their first win of the season. Tom Gill, Colin Napier and Guillame Vaidi hit the goals for Rovers.

Westport hit Claremorris for seven

It was raining goals in the Elverys Sports Super league this weekend as Westport Utd dished out a comprehensive 7-0 defeat to Claremorris on Sunday afternoon in Concannon Park. The star of the show was most definitely Mark McNally who bagged five goals in a stunning display. Phil Keegan and Peter Corcoran also chipped in for the Covies, as they put the south Mayo men to the sword. Elsewhere, Castlebar Celtic romped home to a comfortable 5-0 win away to Conn Rangers. Conor Griffin grabbed a hat-trick, along with goals from Anthony Johnston and a Colm Nevin free-kick.
