Some 10,000 visitors descended on Salthill last Friday for Ireland’s first participation in European Researchers Night. Billed Sea2Sky by organisers NUI Galway, the celebration of science and research ran in parallel with events across 320 cities in Europe. The Galway event was visited by European Commissioner for Research, Innovation and Science, Máire Geoghegan-Quinn.

Showcasing science on a grand scale, the Irish event, Sea2Sky, takes place in Salthill, Galway on September 23.

On Friday September 23 Ireland will host Sea2Sky, its first European Researchers’ Night, in Salthill, Galway. This one day celebration of science in inner and outer space is being organised by NUI Galway in collaboration with the Marine Institute and Galway Atlantaquaria, and is funded under the European Union’s Marie Curie Programme and Discover Science and Engineering.

There are lots of marine activities planned for Galway over the coming days as part of the Marine Month of Madness throughout June.

I recently attended a fashion show organised by the Clarenbridge Oyster Festival committee at the Marine Institute. First, the originality of the venue astonished me, then the gems of styles that boutiques revealed wonderfully surprised me. The possibility of US President Barrack Obama coming to visit Mayo picked up momentum this week. Minister for Agriculture Simon Coveney said this week that there were “obvious reasons” why Mayo could be included on the State visit of the US President with it being the home of Taoiseach Enda Kenny.
