This year has been a big year for streaming tv shows as many people have been spending a lot of time at home due to Covid-19 lockdowns. As many usual holidaymakers are still looking for the right time to travel this summer, others are deciding to stay put at home or opting for a ‘staycation’ instead. Luckily, there are plenty of entertaining tv shows to keep us all entertained for hours. Over the past few years, there has been a sharp rise of binge-worthy tv shows with audiences making them trend on social media. Some of the most watched shows on Netflix in December 2019 were Stranger Things, The Umbrella Academy, You, and Sex Education.

THE LAST two months has seen an unprecedented run of unique and interesting films, from war movie 1917, to a new twist on the Agatha Christie 'whodunnit' in Knives Out, biting social commentary in Parasite, surreal Lovecraftian horror in The Lighthouse, and maybe my favourite of all - a tense thriller from, of all people, Adam Sandler in Uncut Gems.

BIZARRE LOVE triangles, a WWII drama set in the present day, working class life in Mexico, unlikely romances in Mumbai and Scotland, a South American thriller, an Iranian woman's struggle to play football internationally, and a family determined to keep a secret. This is the 55th Galway Film Society autumn season.
