Over 33,000 cups of Fairtrade coffee bought in Westmeath

Bewley’s, the largest provider of fresh coffee in Ireland and MACE the nationwide convenience, neighbourhood, and forecourt retailer have teamed up again to urge Westmeath consumers to Take a Step to support Fairtrade during Fairtrade Fortnight, which runs until Sunday March 25.

Mayo leads the way for Fairtrade

“Coffee drinkers throughout Mayo can make a real difference for communities in developing nations if they choose coffees and teas that are Fairtrade certified,” said Patrick Bewley as he launched Bewley’s 2011 Fairtrade Fortnight activities which run until March 13 and include a fairtrade partnership with local convenience retailer Mace.

Business is good — Fairtrade Fortnight 2011

Contrary to what might be expected during the recession, Fairtrade sales continue to grow in Kilkenny. In 2010 consumer spending on Fairtrade Certified products grew by an impressive 17 per cent, from €118 million in 2009 to €138 million in 2010. Ireland now has one of the highest per capita spends on Fairtrade Certified products anywhere in the world.
