Galway cattle farmers and weanling producers of Limousin, Belgian Blue and Charolais cattle stand to gain from the opening of the US market to Irish beef.

The price of the plain bullocks was reduced by between €10 and €15 a head on the previous week. On the other hand, practically all the heifers sold very well, with the light plain types a little more difficult to get away than previously.

Even though many of the meat factories have decided to drop their prices over the past couple of weeks, there was still a good solid trade for all types of cattle at Kilkenny Mart last Thursday.

The cattle sale last Thursday at Kilkenny mart could be described as quite lively from start to finish. With a slight increase in the number of cattle on offer from last week, up to 720, cattle still sold very well on the day.
