Planning approved for Alexion Monksland development

Roscommon County Council has approved Alexion Ireland’s planning application to construct a new biologics manufacturing facility at the Monksland site in Athlone. This will result in the creation of an additional 50 new jobs locally.

Northgate to close three years after it announced 150 jobs for Castlebar

In November 2013 it was announced that medical screening company Northgate would be setting up operations in Castlebar and creating 150 jobs in the county town. The opening of that facility dragged on over the next two years with only six jobs ever being created. Yesterday (Thursday November 3) it was revealed that Northgate would be closing their business in Castlebar with those six jobs going.

HSA launches free ‘Managing Driving for Work’ online course

The Health and Safety Authority (HSA) has launched a free short on-line course, aimed at helping employers to manage safe driving for work, on its e-learning portal http://hsalearning.ie. The short 30 minute online course was developed in partnership with the Road Safety Authority (RSA) and An Garda Síochána. It will assist employers to understand their legal obligations, in relation to managing driving for work activities, and manage the main risks associated with driving for work.

A new report published by the GMIT Careers Office shows that 94 per cent of GMIT graduates are either in employment or further education, eight months after graduation: 55 per cent of GMIT graduates are in paid employment and 39 per cent are in further education.
