Mayo Man wins UCD Start-Up Award

PurOrigin, a new venture focused on designing and developing novel, energy efficient, domestic appliances, has won the University College Dublin 2012 NovaUCD 2012 Start-Up Award. In addition to the award the promoters of PurOrigin were presented with a €20,000 prize fund after being declared overall winner of University College Dublin’s 17th NovaUCD Campus Company Development Programme.

The run-away Super League champions have half a dozen players picked in the 4-3-3 formation team of the season. Gary Cunningham gets the nod in goal with Martin Geraghty and Shaun Tagg the centre back pairing. In the middle of the park David Cameron is one of three midfielders with both JP O’Gorman and David Hoban making up two thirds of the strike force. Both Claremorris and Ballina Town have received two nods, with full back pairing of James Stretton and Andrew Shally claiming the awards for the south Mayo men. Michael Duffy earned a spot in the midfield three with Brendan Lavelle picking up his award in the front line. The last spot on the team went to Castlebar Celtic’s Ger O’Boyle whose good form saw him called up to the Irish junior side, before cruelly picking up an injury just before the game.

John McNicholl to play benefit dance for Western Care

John McNicholl has announced that he will play a benefit dance for Western Care Association in the Park Hotel, Kiltimagh, on Friday, November 16. This will be John’s only appearance in Mayo in the coming month and is sure to attract a huge following. This event is being organised by Derek Higgins, a 28-year-old from Shanaghmoyle, Knock, who will run the New York City Marathon for Western Care Association this Sunday, November 4. He is the first Mayo person to run the marathon in the Big Apple for the association and intends to raise significant funds for Western Care.

Galway group bring two one act comedies to Mayo this weekend

Drama fans in Ballina, Belmullet and Kiltimagh are set for a treat this weekend when Claregalway-based drama group Compántas Lir bring two comedies to each of the venues. The two-play offering opens tonight (Friday , October 26) at Kiltimagh Town Hall, Saturday night (October 27) at Ballina Arts Centre and Sunday night (October 28) in Aras Inis Guaire in Belmullet.

Kiltimagh one act drama festival

From November 2, the Kiltimagh drama festival will take place. Starts at 8pm each evening in the Town Hall Theatre, Kiltimagh.
