Once again patrons can look forward to a festival programme which brings the best of amateur drama to Roscommon when Roscommon Drama Festival opens on Friday March 6.

The Weir by Conor McPherson opens in a rural Irish pub with Brendan, the publican and Jack, a car mechanic and garage owner. The two begin to discuss their respective days and are soon joined by Jim. The three then discuss Valerie, a pretty young woman from Dublin who has just rented an old house in the area. Then Finbar, a businessman, arrives with Valerie.

Taking place across nine nights from March 4 to 12 at Roscommon Arts Centre, this year’s Roscommon Drama Festival features plenty of old classics and contemporary showstoppers to entertain all.

After a hugely successful run last year, Roscommon Drama Festival once again presents a packed nine night programme of theatre from Friday March 6 to Saturday March 14. Opening night welcomes back last year’s winners Cornmill Theatre Company to the stage with Kevin’s Bed by Bernard Farrell. Both funny and bittersweet, this play plays out the events surrounding a 50th wedding anniversary – all is laid bare and truths are told, for better or worse.

The 2009 Roscommon Drama Festival is gearing up to be another unmissable event with nine nights of fantastic drama and competition kicking off on Friday March 6 in Roscommon Arts Centre.
