Birdwatch Mayo

BirdWatch Mayo, in conjunction with the Mayo Naturalist Field Club, is hosting a talk on the birds of Killala this Saturday November 29. The talk will take place at the Joe Keane Creative Centre, which is located opposite the entrance to the Round Tower, starting at 11am, and is followed by an outing to Killala Harbour and Ross Strand to view the birds of the area. The event will be for about four hours, participants are advised to wear suitable clothing and bring a flask and snack. The event is free of charge. Rural coastal economies in Mayo received a boost yesterday (Thursday) with the announcement of €1.35 million in funding for harbours and coastal infrastructre.

Munnelly welcomes slip way funding

Killala Fine Gael councillor Jarlath Munnelly welcomed the allocation of €112,500 to re-develop Kilcummin slipway in Carrowmore-Lacken. The allocation from the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Marine Simon Coveney will allow the construction of a new slipway and turning area, as well as the repair of the storm wall which collapsed over the winter.
