Through rare books, art, music, drama, and film, the Yeats and the West exhibition at NUI Galway discovers what the west meant to him, and what this might mean for us. As part of this exhibition of original materials that are unique to the West of Ireland, NUI Galway has added a recently acquired portrait of Lady Gregory painted by the artist Gerald Festus Kelly in 1912.

Mayo University Hospital wins two awards at the Saolta University Health Care Group Staff Achievement Awards

Staff at Mayo University Hospital received two awards at the recent Saolta University Health Care Group Staff Recognition Awards which took place on Friday November 13 at an event in the Sligo Park Hotel. A group of staff from A Ward in the hospital who dealt with a fire earlier this year and ensured the safety of patients and staff received the Unsung Hero Award. 

Mayo Medical Academy to be completed this autumn

An Taoiseach, Enda Kenny, this week has welcomed the news that the dean of the Mayo Medical Academy, consultant surgeon Dr Kevin Barry, has been promoted to the role of professor by NUIG. Dr Barry is the only consultant to have been appointed to this role outside of the staff of Galway University Hospital. The Taoiseach also said this week that the €2.2 million project which will house the academy on a permanent basis is expected to be completed within the next two months.
