World, European, and Irish premieres in theatre and dance, leading international rock bands, the best in Irish comedy, and an array of international street theatre will all feature in this year’s Galway Arts Festival which takes place from Monday July 15 to Sunday 28.

The Marine Institute Singers were singing on high after emerging victorious in the inaugural Galway Choirfactor Competition which took place in the Radisson Blu Hotel on Friday April 12. Organised by the Corrib Lions Club as a fundraising initiative for Kilcuan Retreat Centre in Clarinbridge, the event attracted a capacity audience of more than 700 people.

An estimated 150 singers are registered to perform this Friday April 12 on the Radisson Blu Hotel’s live lounge stage in the Choirfactor competition - a charity event organised by the Corrib Lions Club. Six entrants spanning the business, health, and sporting sector of Galway will engage in a ‘sing-off’ and all funds gathered on the night will be donated to the Kilcuan retreat and healing centre, Clarinbridge.

Choirs from six Galway based companies and organisations will battle it out at Galway’s first Choirfactor competition which takes place next month in the Radisson Blu Hotel’s Live Lounge on Friday April 12.

WHILE THE headliners include Elvis Costello and Imelda May, Galway bands and a stage hosted by the Róisín Dubh, will feature strongly at this year’s Westport Festival.

The campaign is on to get ‘Tiny Dancer’ the single recorded by a group of musicians and singers to raise funds for Galway girl Lily-Mae Morrison, to the top of the charts for Christmas. The single will be launched at the opening of the Galway Continental Christmas Market tomorrow (Friday) and Lily-Mae, who is suffering from a rare childhood cancer, will turn on the Christmas lights at the event with the help of singers Paddy Casey and Declan O’Rourke, and Anthony Ryan, chairman of the Galway City Business Association.
