I hope you all had a nice St Patrick’s weekend.

I am compiling my column this week late on Tuesday night and, so far, we have not had storm Emma or, indeed, storm anything except for very cold weather and some light snow.

Well, what a weekend of rugby we have just had. I do not think anyone who watched it will ever forget Johnny Sexton and, in the dying minutes of the game, the wonderful drop goal he executed.

Well, so much happened in the last week, and most of it during the weekend.

A group in Galway has set a new world record for the longest distance rowed in 24 hours by a mixed team aged between 30-39 years. The world record attempt was organised by Damian Browne, former Connacht & Leinster Rugby Star, who will set off on his own Solo Atlantic Rowing Challenge in December. The team of 35 people rowed 378,473 metres non-stop over the 24-hour period in the Warehouse Gym.

Ireland rugby coach Joe Schmidt will be the special guest at a dinner hosted by former Connacht Rugby star Damian Browne to raise funds for his Atlantic Challenge chosen charities.

Well, last week it was all talk of Enda Kenny and what would he say and what would he do.

By planes, trains and automobiles they came. Places like Belfast airport and Larne ferry port have probably never had it so good as thousands availed of the northern transport services as well known travel paths had been booked out earlier in the week. By hook and by crook Connacht's clan made it to Edinburgh and by God, the journey was worth it.
