Sunday, June 1, sees Mayo’s biggest outdoor ceili - Dancing at the Crossroads - kick-off at 5pm at the junction of New Antrim Street and Tucker Street.

The organisers of Dancing At The Crossroads in Castlebar are delighted to announce this year’s event will go ahead on Sunday June 1, the Sunday of the June Bank Holiday weekend. After the success of the last two years, such was demand that it was decided to extend the dancing this year and invite more performers and dancers to join in the fun. The music this year will start at 5pm, and kicking off the evening will be local traditional group Rolling Waves under the musical directorship of fiddler John Kilkenny. They will be joined on a specially constructed dance platform by students from the world famous Cresham School of Irish Dancing.

Belcarra Gathering events

Tonight (Friday August 23) the Gathering Mass will take place in St Anne’s Church, Belcarra. Following this at 8.30pm there will be a display of Golden Jubilee Apostolic work and refreshments in the community centre. From 10pm there will be a traditional music session with John Kilkenny in Flukies Cosy Bar.

Sixmilebridge Folk Club Festival Band for Mayo

Sixmilebridge Folk Club Festival band from Co Clare will join forces with the Banjaxed Bluegrass Band to tour the Castlebar area Mayo from the today, Friday November 16 to November 18. Up to 30 musicians, singers and friends from the club will converge on the villages of Belcarra, Balla and Westport to promote the Shannonside Winter Music Weekend which takes place in Sixmilebridge and Bunratty, Clare from January 17 through 20, 2013.
