One of the most eagerly anticipated weekends in the local hurling calendar sees both the senior and intermediate semi-finals down for decision. And newly installed Galway manager Henry Shefflin is likely to be an interested onlooker as the race for the Tom Callanan Cup intensifies.

With the All-Ireland senior finalists now known after a dramatic weekend of action at Croke Park, the focus of the hurling world over the next few days will turn to Semple Stadium, as Galway hunt for yet more honours at both the minor and U20 age groups.

When captain Sean Neary raised the Irish Press Cup aloft in the Hogan Stand on Sunday afternoon, it was a case of mission accomplished for manager Jeffrey Lynskey and his staff as Galway's minor hurlers completed back-to-back Championship wins since 2005.

Jeffrey Lynskey has performed a really super job as Galway minor manager over the past few years, and this year's charges reaffirmed that last weekend when they produced a superb second-half display to see off Kilkenny by 0-21 to 0-14. In doing so they clinched the county's 12th All-Ireland minor title, and the third under Lynskey's guidance in the past four years.

The restructuring of the Minor Championship in 2018 meant that Galway would be given extra game time out on the field as they pursued a second minor title in as many seasons. This is how they made it to the this Sunday's decider.

It is unusual to see so many clubs represented on a county minor hurling panel as there are this year.

Jeffrey Lynskey has been a successful manager with the Galway minor hurlers over the past few seasons, guiding the county to titles in 2015 and 2017 and to another final this Sunday when his charges take on Kilkenny on Sunday in Croke Park (1pm).
