GMIT has secured circa €1.8 m from the Higher Education Authority to increase the number of apprenticeship courses at its Galway (Dublin Road) and Letterfrack campuses from September 2021.

GMIT has created a new Department of Engineering Apprenticeships and has appointed James Boyle as the new head of department. The move comes in response to growing demand and in line with the Government’s recently launched Action Plan for Apprenticeship 2021 – 2025.

Staff at the GMIT School of Engineering have designed and developed a new type of emergency ventilator which can be produced rapidly and inexpensively to assist the medics in the treatment of COIVD-19 patients.
