The Mayo Cancer Support Association, Castlebar, has been elected to the National Networking Committee of the Irish Cancer Society’s Cancer Support Affiliation Programme for the West/Northwest region. The committee, which held its inaugural meeting in the Irish Cancer Society’s offices in Dublin on December 6, will guide the direction of the society’s affiliation programme which sees it support 48 community based cancer support services across the country.

Today, Friday October 5 the Irish Cancer Society is calling on everyone in Mayo to get together and support Get the Girls Day by buying and wearing a pink ribbon to help raise awareness and fund the society’s cancer projects and support services.

Boots Ireland announced that they will partner with the Irish Cancer Society as their new Charity of the Year for 2012/13. The aim of the partnership is to support people living with cancer in Ireland and to increase awareness, promote prevention and raise vital funds to support the Irish Cancer Society Nursing Services.

Nearly €3,500 has so far been raised by Galway City and County Fire Brigades whose members recently held a shave or dye event in Monroe’s tavern in aid of the Irish Cancer Society.

Yourells Hair Salon on Eyre Street is supporting Daffodil Day tomorrow (Friday) by helping to raise vital funds for the Irish Cancer Society. The salon is donating €5 from every treatment on Daffodil Day to the charity to help support the cancer nursing services in the country.

Volunteers from the Athlone Daffodil Day committee attended the launch of this year’s Daffodil Day which was held in the Aviva Stadium recently.

The Irish Cancer Society and Dell ask Mayo for help to reach this year’s Daffodil Day target set at €3.5million to help fund free patient care services. Daffodil Day will take place on March 23.

Recently Ballina, Swinford, and Castlebar Tesco’s staff and customers showed their support when they took part in the National Bag Pack and together raised more than €2,500 in aid of Tesco’s Charity of the Year, the Irish Cancer Society. Funds raised from the bag pack will go towards the national rollout of Care to Drive, a volunteer driving service for cancer patients.
