Galway City Council has welcomed an award of €170,000 for roof works to No 45 and No 47 Dominick Street Lower, home to Áras na nGael and Galway Arts Centre, under the national Historic Structures Fund 2026.

Despite the centre only reopening its doors last July following major renovation work, it is understood that the roof of the building is still in a vulnerable condition.

Galway’s iconic cultural centre, Áras na nGael, is set to receive a €170k grant for conservation repairs to the shared roof of a historic terrace of Georgian townhouses on Dominick Street.

More than €330,000 in funding has been announced for a range of conservation projects on heritage buildings in Galway. 

Michael Ring TD has confirmed that two heritage buildings in Mayo have been allocated a total of €70,000 in funding under the Historic Structures Fund 2021.
