•GMIT Surf Club Team claimed silver at All Ireland Surf Intervarsities in Antrim recently. Eoin Murphy - a second year event management student in GMIT - flew through his heats in small but challenging waves with clean lines and tight turns. He eventually surfed his way into second position, claiming the silver medal. Also representing GMIT was Padraic Alan O’Conaire who claimed second place in the body boarding category. He scored high marks due to his technical 360 turns and clean lines.

• Galway County badminton team enjoyed a famous win in the All Ireland inter-county finals at NUIG sports centre. Having advanced from the qualifying weekend, Galway faced Roscommon in what proved a tight All-Ireland semi final. Early nerves and a couple of tight set losses saw the team trail Roscommon 3-2 in the best of nine, but a great win in the first ladies’ doubles saw Galway draw 3-3. Galway won two of the three mixed games to squeeze through to the All Ireland final 5-3. Up against Meath, Galway got off to a flying start, winning both singles to take a 2-0 lead. Second ladies and second men soon followed to leave Galway in a strong 4-0 lead. It was left to Galway's first doubles pairing of Ross Creaven and Colm Franks to clinch the deciding match to give Galway an unbeatable 5-0 lead and the Class 4 All-Ireland title. Galway team, Cormac O'Connor (player manager), Ross Creaven, Colm Franks, Bryan Lalor, Damien Hehir, Stephen Keane, Joanne Gilmore, Susan Gilmore, Helen Sheehan, Orla Bishop, Claire Kenny.
