400 primary school children from Galway county attended a series of concerts in The Mall Theatre in Tuam this week on Wednesday September 28th as part of Music for Galway’s musical outreach programme. Children from Clydagh, Ballinlass, Bawnmore, Tuam, Athenry, Sylane and Glinsk got to ‘Meet the Violins’ where world renowned violinist, Sergey Malov introduced them to instruments from the violin family through contemporary and traditional music.

Determined to give their national school a brighter future parents, locals, and the business community of Glinsk have pulled together in the hopes of raising €50,000 in a raffle with a difference, the first prize being a pedigree Limousin bull.

More than 250 people from community and voluntary groups from all around County Galway were honoured at the County Mayors Awards Ceremony last weekin the Lough Rea Hotel and Spa. The awards recognise and celebrate community and voluntary activity around County Galway. Eleven awards were up for grabs after a public call for nominations was made back in September.

With preparations now well under way for next month’s inaugural Mayors Awards for County Galway organisors have announced the 35 community and voluntary groups short listed and in with a chance of coming up trumps in more than seven categories.
