In a recent article previewing the All-Ireland Ladies Football Final, I stated that the captain of the first Galway side to get to an All-Ireland Final side was Nono McHugh. In actual fact, the captain leading that side against the odds in 1975, was the athletic Rosemary Divilly.

There are some teams whose greatest achievement is not measured by the trophies they lifted, but by the paths they cleared for those who came after them. The Galway senior ladies' football team of 1975 belongs firmly in that category. They may not have returned home with the Brendan Martin Cup, but they carried something every bit as valuable – hope, pride and the belief that Galway women deserved their place on the biggest stage of Gaelic football.
