I admire them, but they do annoy me quite a bit

I have never hidden the fact that dubious refereeing and bad decisions by referees during games are pet hates of mine and make my blood boil. Before I attract the wrath of every ref in the county I must admit it is more so at a national level than within the county itself. There have not been many games I attended this year that I left thinking the man in the middle did a really good job.

Newly crowned Westmeath champions St Loman’s and experienced Roscommon kingpins St Brigid’s both got their respective provincial campaign off to a winning start last weekend. The Mullingar side had to fight hard for their one-point win over Carlow’s Old Leighlin while it was all too easy for St Brigid’s who were never tested by disappointing Sligo champions Tourlestrane.

Cycle for Niamh - brothers to make mammoth trek for beloved sister

Three brothers will cycle 713km in memory of their sister, Niamh Kelly Coughlan, who was a frequent visitor to the Louisburgh area, over five days from July 30 to August 3. They will be coming west on Wednesday, July 31 and then going through Louisburgh on to Limerick.
