Today, October 1 is International Day of Older Persons – a day to celebrate the enormous contribution of older people to our family life, our neighbourhoods and our communities.

Galway Rural Development is offering courses this autumn which will give participants the skills to be job ready. There are courses in SafePass, manual handling, HACCP, First Aid Responder, and hairdressing. Many of the labour market courses we offer are delivered in partnership with Galway and Roscommon Education and Training Board.

Galway Rural Development (GRD) still has a number of courses being run throughout the county this autumn.

A total of €7.6 million in vital funding will be allocated to rural communities in East Galway as part of the commencement of the LEADER programme in the area.

The Burren Lowlands Group was among the winners at this year’s Golden Mile of Galway Awards, receiving the Built Heritage Award for a mile extending from Ballylee Cross to the Ballyaneen lios/fort. This is one of the most historic roads in the county as it includes Thoor Ballylee, an old mill and miller’s house, Yeats’ cottage, ring forts, a blessed well, and 19th century farmhouses.
