Brothers Michael (18) and Matthew (15) Gardiner from Parklands, Clarinbridge, are celebrating winning two major awards in the World Irish Dance Championships in London.

Last week marked the beginning of the twinning of the town of Oranmore and the Breton village Clohars-Fouesnant, organised by the Oranmore Twinning Committee and its chairperson, Gerardine Costello. A group from the village arrived in Ireland and was greeted by members of the committee before they commenced their busy week-long visit to the west.

Volunteers are a huge asset to the community and it is important that their efforts are recognised and celebrated, said Galway County Mayor Cllr Michael Maher when speaking at the first County Mayor’s Awards ceremony which was held at the Connemara Coast Hotel recently.
