Sarsfields produced the goods when it mattered most to collect their first senior county title since 1997, beating Craughwell by 2-10 to 0-14.

The replay of the Galway county senior hurling final takes place this Sunday at Pearse Stadium (1.45pm) with Craughwell and Sarsfields doing battle once again, to see who will take home the Tom Callanan trophy for 2015.

Even with only a few minutes to go last Sunday afternoon in Kenny Park and with both sides vying for their first senior title in a long time, and nothing between the sides on the scoreboard, there was a really muted atmosphere in the ground. There was barely a murmur on the packed terraces and the stand was never in any potential danger of being shook to the rafters.

There was a mighty crowd in Kenny Park last Sunday afternoon to witness two big surprises in the county hurling semi-finals.

The two county senior hurling semi-finals take place this Sunday at Kenny Park in an attractive double header.

Following their controversial 2-15 to 0-21 draw last weekend, St Thomas and Loughrea will renew acquaintances this Sunday in Kenny Park at 3.30pm in the county quarter-final replay.  The referee  is the experienced Alan Kelly.

Shoppers visiting Galway towns are to get a reprieve from pay parking from early next year. This follows a motion passed by Galway County Council at this week’s meeting to allow two hours daily free parking in Loughrea, Ballinasloe, Tuam, Gort, Athenry, and Clifden.
