The ‘Galway Knees up’ Ladies Day after party at the Galway Racing Festival 2009 is in its first year and has almost sold out. Tickets for the event are becoming a rare and valued commodity, with anticipation rising over the plethora of celebrity faces and quality auction items available on the night. Among the star-studded guests will be MCs for the evening Karen Koster and Hector O h’Eochagain. Champion jockeys Ruby Walsh and AP McCoy will also host tables on the night, together with many other well known names from the world of racing and business.

Next week Ballybrit will reverberate to the sound of hooves as the annual summer festival of racing at Galway starts again.

The Galway hat shop, located downstairs in Corbett Court/Eyre Square centre, boasts the best selection of international and Irish milliners in the country. This enables the store to offer customers a wide selection of individual designers with unique styles. Designers include Catherine Cooke, Nigel Raymond Couture, Vivienne Sheriff Millenry, and Peter Bettley.

This year’s racing festival is set to be massive with a total of 62 horses entered in this year’s William Hill Galway Plate, and 61 horses entered in the The Arthur Guinness Galway Hurdle. 

It was a day of fabulous frocks, killer heels and heavenly hats as fashionistas threw caution (and occasionally delicately balanced head pieces) to the wind and determined to enjoy Ladies Day at the Galway Races despite the credit crunch.

The bad weather wasn’t much of a hindrance as Ballybrit was awash with creativity and fashion as adults and children alike flocked to the course in huge numbers with their most creative, outrageous, and surreal headgear.
