THE GALWAY Americana Festival 2009 programme was launched last Friday at The Crane Bar to a large captive crowd with music provided by the excellent Jeff and Vida Band. The festival runs from September 10 to 13.

Mary Staunton, renowned button accordion player, has confirmed that she will perform at Mise Art Space, from 6pm to 8pm as part of Galway Culture Night, on Friday September 25.

An opportunity to explore the difference between modern homes and those of days gone by will be provided to children as part of Open House Galway, the architecture event which takes place from October 16 to 18. Children from seven to 12-years-old are invited to the Galway City Museum, where workshops will encourage them to think about their environment. The RTE 1 Nationwide programme is due to feature Open House Galway, which takes place in association with the Irish Architecture Foundation, on the weekend of October 16-18. The programme, due to be broadcast at 7pm on Wednesday October 14, will preview many of the quality-designed buildings in the Open House programme as well as interviews with architects.
