Mayo’s town councils could get the ‘snip’

The lengthy and much awaited report by An Bord Snip Nua which was released yesterday outlining a potential saving of €5.3bn has recommended the abolition of town councils and regional authorities, along with reducing the number of county councils from 34 to 22.

The entire team of RTÉ Nuacht celebrated its relocation from Donnybrook to the TG4 studios in Baile na hAbhann, following a significant investment into revamping the TG4 headquarters. €750,000 worth of community schemes for Cill Chomáin

Funding for a number of new community improvement schemes for the Cill Chomain area was announced this week by Minister for Community, Rural, and Gaeltacht Affairs, Éamon Ó Cuív, and the Minister for Communications, Energy, and Natural Resources, Eamon Ryan. It is estimated that these projects will cost up to €750,000, which will be provided by several state bodies, including the Department of Community, Rural and Gaeltacht Affairs, Fáilte Ireland and Mayo County Council.

Mayo men elected to Rural Science Executive

John Durkan from Devlis, Ballyhaunis and Bernard Joyce from Ballyvary have been elected to the National Executive of the Rural Science Association at its AGM in the Brockagh Resource Centre, Glendalough, Co Wicklow held recently. Both men graduated from NUI Galway in 2008 with a Bsc in Rural Development.
