After two years of being based in the home town of the club, Carrick on Suir Motor Club’s premier event the Ravens Rock Rally will move to Kilkenny City this summer. Ballyhaunis rally driver Shane Buckley brought his Citroen C2R2 Max home in a fine eighth place overall on Sunday's Moto Midlands Stages Rally. As well as winning class six by nearly three minutes, Buckley and co-driver Thomas Maguire from Meath were the second highest placed front wheel drive finishers on the Rooskey based event. Indeed they had been as high as fifth overall before losing time on the last batch of stages with a wrong tyre choice.

The smiles at the rally finish said it all. After months of preparation, sheer hard graft, and endless enthusiasm, the 2010 McWilliam Park Hotel Mayo Stages Rally had proven to be a resounding success. The sense of satisfaction, tinged no doubt with a hint of relief, was palpable.

With the 2010 Mayo Stages Rally only a matter of weeks away, excitement is building as the final touches are put in place in the run-up to this year’s event which takes place on the week-end of March 13-14. The rally is one of the biggest sporting attractions in the region each year, attracting many thousands of visitors, and bringing valuable revenue to the region. After a number of very successful years based in Castlebar, it’s all change for 2010, with the rally moving to Claremorris and a new rally headquarters in the McWilliam Park Hotel.

After an extended break of over two months, the Dunlop National Rally Championship resumed with Sunday’s circuit of Munster Stages Rally. The Limerick based rally was won by Niall Maguire, the Monaghan Subaru driver taking his third successive victory of recent weeks after championship rival Patrick Elliott put his similar car off the road on the final stage.
