National Music Day was celebrated in great traditional style last week at Áras an Mhuilinn, Mullingar with a preview of the summer seisiún show. First seisiún show of the 2013 summer season will start on Wednesday night July 3 at 8.30pm and continues every Wednesday night in July as well as on August 7 and 21.

Creating a traditional music ensemble with Music Generation Mayo and Emer Mayock

Music Generation Mayo, part of Music Generation, Ireland’s national music education programme, funded by U2 and the Ireland Funds together with local partners, is offering an opportunity to experienced young traditional musicians and singers with a high standard of playing ability to form a traditional music ensemble. Participants, to be aged between 12 and 18 years, will participate in a six month music residency under the guidance and mentorship of acclaimed Mayo musician and performer Emer Mayock. The residency will culminate in a live performance opportunity by the ensemble in June 2013.
