Formal qualification available for healthcare assistants

New HIQA national standards for residential care settings for older people in Ireland require staff to hold a nationally and internationally recognised qualification. With this in mind, and predicted future recruitment demand for healthcare assistants set to average 2,300 per annum between 2011 and 2020 (Skills and Labour Market Research Unit of FÁS Report), completing a Major Award at FETAC Level 5 in Healthcare Support or Nursing Studies can give those seeking work as healthcare assistants a formal qualification and can put them in a position where their skills are in high demand.
