Leas Cathaoirleach of Galway County Council. Cllr Evelyn Parsons has welcomed the successful outcome of the application sheproposed and helped draft for a Ballinasloe Outdoor Recreation Park, including the development of an accessible swim/water recreation area.

The recording and publishing of previously unheard and unwritten stories of Galway’s central role in the voluntary period from 1913 to 1923 is being described as a legacy project of the County’s Decade of Commemoration programme, which draws to a close this week.

Only one case of a severe form of Lyme disease, a bacterial infection which can be spread to humans by infected ticks, was reported in Galway last year, according to figures released by the HSE. This was the first case to have been reported in the county for four years.

Sixty patients have attended a regional menopause clinic since it was set up in November of last year. The facility, which is based at University Hospital Galway, is a specialist service for women with additional needs around menopause care. Women are referred to the clinic which is open one afternoon per week.

Calls are being made for the Galway County Council running track in Dunlo, Ballinasloe, to have its hours of operation extended from 7am to 9pm and for it to open on Sundays and Bank Holidays.

Local Independent Deputy, Denis Naughten, has revealed there is a 60 percent reduction in the number of buses facilitating patients and visitors attending Portiuncula University Hospital as a result of the decision by the National Transport Authority not to replace the lost Bus Éireann services.

Cllr Dr Evelyn Parsons has called on Galway County Council to make a formal submission to the Minister for Housing Local Government & Heritage outlining the council’s “complete opposition” to the proposed provisions of the Land Development Agency Bill 2021. The Bill to set up the agency contains a number of clauses which would divest councillors of their veto on land transfers relating to the new agency.

The total number of submissions received by Galway County Council regarding the waste transfer station facility permit at Pollboy, Ballinasloe was 674, 359 by e-mail and 315 by post and hand delivered, according to Cllr Evelyn Parsons.
