Eighth detection of pesticides in Newport water supply in two years

Another exceedance for the pesticide MCPA has been detected in the public drinking water supply in Newport. This is the eighth detection for MCPA and Glyphosate in this catchment in the last two years and the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has put Newport on its priority list as a result.

Farmers urged to use best practice when spraying pesticides

Exceedances in pesticides have been detected in drinking water sources in Mayo and as a result Irish Water working in partnership with Mayo County Council and the National Pesticides and Drinking Water Action Group (NPDWAG) is appealing to farmers and other users of pesticides to follow the guidelines when applying these substances to their lands.
