Burglaries in Westmeath decrease by 18 per cent

Westmeath has recorded an 18 per cent decrease in the incidence of burglary, according to the 2010 eircom PhoneWatch Burglary Report. The report, which tracked burglaries between June 2009 and June 2010, also revealed that April and May were the most targeted months for burglaries in Westmeath.

ESB and Eircom should reverse minimum payments proposal

Local councillor and postmaster of Ballynacargy Post Office, Robert Troy, has called on the ESB and Eircom to reverse a decision which would see a minimum payment of €20 introduced for customers paying bills at post offices. Eircom has announced their intention to introduce this new payment system from October 1, while the ESB has also stated they plan to follow suit.
