Europe Matters event

On Thursday March 6 South West Mayo Development Company, in conjunction with Galway-Mayo Institute of Technology, is holding a seminar Europe Matters in the Castlebar campus of GMIT. Funded by Department of An Taoiseach under the Communicating Europe Initiative, as well as Mayo County Council, this half-day seminar is an opportunity to examine and reflect on the role of citizens in influencing the EU. The internationally renowned line-up of speakers includes Anastasia Crickley, the first chair of the EU Fundamental Rights Agency; Dr Will Dinan from the University of the West of Scotland and co-founder of www.spinwatch.org; Kieran Clifford from Amnesty International; and Paul Ginnell from the European Anti-Poverty Network (Ireland).

Prestigious EU appointment for NUI Galway law professor

Gerard Quinn, Professor at the School of Law at NUI Galway and Director of its Centre for Disability Law and Policy, has been appointed to the Scientific Committee of the EU Fundamental Rights Agency (FRA) which is headquartered in Vienna.
