Galway Domestic Abuse Service has welcomed the timely, new Government awareness and information campaign on domestic abuse, which was launched this week (www.stillhere.ie) It is understood that radio and TV ads will start this week as part of the campaign.

COPE Galway has issued an urgent appeal to the people of Galway to help the local organisation support the most vulnerable people in our community during the Corona Virus emergency. The local charity operates frontline services for families and individuals in Galway who are homeless; women who experience domestic abuse (and their children) and older people who now, more than ever, may experience social isolation while they protect themselves at home.

A most welcome development in 2019 was the construction work on our new state of the art domestic abuse facility, Modh Eile House, which took place throughout the year. The building will be ready to occupy in January 2020, when we will have more room and enhanced facilities in a building that is now suitable for women and their children to build a new future for themselves.

COPE Galway this week launched a booklet to Remember, Respect and Record stories of the women who lived and worked in the Magdalen Laundry in Galway. The local charity sees the booklet as a way of acknowledging this painful history while also looking to a new use for the convent building associated with the laundry – a state-of-the-art centre for women and children who experience domestic abuse in Galway.
