Westmeath senior footballers will find out this weekend who their opposition will be in their opening championship game on June 4.

Tipperary to prove tough test for Lake County

Westmeath’s draw with Cavan last weekend may have ended their losing run which stretched to 15 consecutive league games but a much improved performance will be needed if we are to collect both points on offer in Semple Stadium on Sunday. With only a few minutes remaining Pat Flanagan’s men looked as though they were heading for a long overdue win, only for Cavan substitute Gearoid McKiernan to fire over a brace to secure the draw.

Westmeath a‘Louth’ to dream

A glorious opportunity to reach a Leinster final. That’s what both managers must be drumming into their players’ heads ahead of Sunday’s semi-final showdown between Westmeath and Louth in Croke Park. Not that the players themselves will need any reminding.

Make or break as Westmeath welcome Laois to town

image preview

After a double U21 and senior clash with Meath last week, it is now the turn of another old foe, Laois, to come to town. First our seniors welcome the O’Moore men to Cusack Park for a make or break Division 2 game on Sunday at 2.30pm. Then on St Patrick’s Day it’s the turn of the U21s from both counties to contest the Leinster semi-final. What a treat of football on our doorstep at this early stage of the year.

NUIG and Corofin expected to advance to the county final

Previewing any game involving NUIG is difficult because you don’t how many of their marquee players will or won’t be available. However, and this is a prediction of which I am confident, if they have all their top players this Sunday, they will be too strong for Cortoon Shamrocks.
