The waiting is nearly over and the final pieces of the jigsaw are now in place as St Brigid’s ready themselves for a titanic All-Ireland Club Football Final showdown with Dublin and Leinster club champions Ballymun Kickhams on St Patrick’s Day.

Despite never reaching the same level of performance as their semi-final exploits, reigning Connacht club champions St Brigid’s retained their Roscommon crown to complete a hat-trick of titles in a wintery Kiltoom last Sunday. This was a real David and Goliath contest with the aristocrats from Kiltoom defending their title against a team that were plying their trade in the intermediate ranks just 12 short months ago.

Much of the attention last Saturday was focused on count centres from Keenagh to The Hyde Centre and many more up and down the country as results of the General Election began to unfold. Yet not even the election of Luke ‘Ming’ Flanagan could have equalled the high experienced by all connected with St Brigid’s at the sound of Eddie Kinsella’s final whistle at the end of this epic All-Ireland Club Championship semi-final.
