NUIG’s contribution to Galway’s Bike Week Festival was a huge success with many opting to cycle to work as part of the university’s Cycle to Campus Day. Galway's Bike Week Festival runs from June 18 to 26 and this year the week was launched in Galway with a mass cycle, a bike village and many other events around the city. As part of NUI Galway's contribution to the festival, the green campus committee organised a university-wide Cycle to Campus Day yesterday.

The Galway Bike Festival 2011, as part of National Bike Week, will commence on Saturday. Now in its third year, the Galway Bike Festival promotes cycling for everyone, aims to increase the number of cyclists in Galway and supports a dynamic cycling culture in the city and county.

To mark Galway’s Bike Week Festival, which runs from June 18 to 26, NUI Galway will be making its contribution with a university-wide Cycle to Campus Day.

A large group of leisure cyclists took on the 64k lap around Lough Mask last Saturday. This was the fifth annual running of Western Lakes Cycling Club’s Lap of the Mask, which raised funds for the Cystic Fibrosis West Building Fund.

As the leisure cycle season gets under way in earnest in the month of May, Western Lakes Cycling Club in Ballinrobe is getting ready for the Lap of the Mask, its first big leisure cycling event of the summer. A large crowd is expected to attend this year’s event, which takes place tomorrow (Saturday). Last year’s Lap of the Mask saw a 150 strong crowd complete the 64km circuit around the lake.
