A new televison series is to highlight bullying among young people, and is seeking those who have experience of bullying in an attempt to help them share and relinquish their anxieties. The three part series is due to be broadcast in March 2012 and renowned clinical psychologist David Coleman wants to offer his expertise and therapeutic support to a number of young people who have been affected by bullying, either as a victim or as a bully.

Bullying has become a much talked about issue in recent years, and the vast majority of schools now have anti-bullying policies. However schools cannot be successful in their preventative work if they do not get support from home.

NUI Galway professor Keith Sullivan who is attached to the school of education has said that the problem of cyberbullying is escalating in our schools, and it is difficult to stop due to the anonymity of the perpetrator.

A seminar to be held in Castlebar next week will try to combat the problem of bullying at home and in the workplace, which according to research carried out by the Samaritans is increasing during these times of economic downturn, with one in four homes experiencing incidents of bullying and one in four employees being bullied in the workplace.
