The Croagh Patrick Stakeholders Group was formed in November, 2015 as a community response to concerns over the condition of the mountain together with concerns around safety, liability of shareholders and landowners, the status of the Croagh Patrick as Ireland’s Holy Mountain, and the absence of structures to manage the impact of growing numbers of recreational users on the natural environment, habitats, and ecosystems of the area.

The Croagh Patrick Pink Link Challenge will take place on Saturday, April 8. The main aim of this event is to form a human link from the bottom to the top of Croagh Patrick to raise awareness of cancer but also to symbolize solidarity for all the people and families affected by a cancer diagnosis. The chain will take approximately 3,000-4,000 people to be successful and anyone can take part and wear something pink to show support. The challenge is based on four different levels which makes it suitable for people of all fitness levels to take part.

Just days before an estimated 25,000 to 30,000 people are set to scale Ireland's 'holiest mountain' for Reek Sunday, strong calls have been issued to Mayo County Council to do more to protect the ancient pilgrimage site.

Sunday week, July 26, is Reek Sunday, or Garland Sunday or Garlic Sunday or even Crom Dubh Sunday, and I am sure there are many other names to describe the  famous pilgrimage to Croagh Patrick, when many thousands climb to its rocky summit.

The annual pilgrimage to Croagh Patrick, known locally as Reek Sunday, is one of the major events in Westport and will attract over 25,000 visitors to this unique and historic event.

Minister of State Michael Ring has welcomed the announcement from Minister for Environment, Phil Hogan that he has given approval for South West Mayo Development Company Limited, to approve funding of €200,000 to Croagh Patrick Holiday Village for the construction and development of a Croagh Patrick Holiday Hostel, in Murrisk. Funding will be provided under the Encouragement of Tourism Activities measure of the Rural Development Programme 2007-2013.
