Volunteers in Portumna and Tuam have put their communities in the spotlight during a two-day judging visit for the IPB Pride of Place competition. Pride of Place adjudicators Tom Dowling and Peter Hynes visited Portumna on Monday before travelling to Tuam on Tuesday, where they met volunteers, community groups, young people and local organisations.

Portumna Tidy Towns and Tuam Women’s Shed have been chosen to represent County Galway in the 2026 IPB Pride of Place Awards.

The Marconi Men’s Shed in Clifden and the community of Clarinbridge have welcomed judges from the 23rd annual IPB Pride of Place competition, an all-island awards programme highlighting excellence in community development.

Two Co Galway areas have been singled out for special praise by judges from IPB Pride of Place, the all-island competition run by Co-operation Ireland. It recognised the vital contributions that communities in Creggs and Gort made to society.
