Creativity is such an important skill and is heavily valued in many areas such as marketing, design, multimedia, drama, dance, craft and literature. Some students are aware of their creativity while in school, while others become more aware of their creativity later in life. Creativity comes in many forms and can be explored at any stage in life.

Creative Writing for Beginners with Kevin Higgins takes place one evening per week (Monday) from 7-9.30pm (10 weeks). It commences on Monday, September 12, 2022. Advance booking is essential. Places cost €140. Kevin Higgins will provide writing exercises for, and give gentle critical feedback to, those interested in trying their hand at writing stories, poems, or memoir.

WITH 2021 winding to a close and 2022 on the horizon, many will be looking ahead to what they can finally get around to doing in the New Year.

I’m going to begin this column with really interesting creative and exciting news. Last Friday night I was invited to launch a book called Tales from the Heart – New Creative Writing from Athlone Institute of Technology. Now, this is a compilation by Mick Donnellan of nineteen writers who attended his creative writing course for the last number of months. The course is conducted under the aegis of the Department of Lifelong Learning in Athlone IT.
