Part II

Connemara Sea Week which runs from October 22 to 30, is a multi-disciplinary festival, celebrating the wonderful marine heritage of Connemara. The festival will celebrate its 33rd birthday later this month, and has grown to be a wonderful and unique event with something to interest all age groups. Highlights include art exhibitions, concerts, talks, walks, children’s activities, and sports events, combined with lots of great music and buckets of fun for all the family. A special highlight for the last few years has been the wonderful ‘After the Light’ parade, a spectacular night full of myth, magic, madness and mayhem.

Week IV

Ionad Cultúrtha an Phiarsaigh, Conamara, was one of the Government’s major capital projects at the centre of the Historical Reflection strand of the Ireland 2016 Centenary Programme. This new visitor centre on the site of Pearse’s Cottage was launched in November last year and it has been received exceptionally well by both tourists and the local community.

The Commercial Rowing Club was set up in May 1875. The Corrib Rowing and Yachting Club had been in existence since 1864, but as it was the only such club on the river, there was a distinct lack of competition for its oarsmen. Commercial provided that competition.
