The Connacht Senior Ladies Football Championship final due to take place on Sunday between Galway and Sligo has been called off.

This missed opportunity also means a very significant loss of revenue for the County Board and another hit to local businesses.

Both the Mayo and Roscommon county boards could be facing fines from the Connacht Council following an incident that happened at half time in the under 21 Connacht semi-final between the sides on St Patrick’s Day. Secretary of the Connacht Council, John Prenty told the Mayo Advertiser, “I can’t confirm what fines have or will be issued to both counties in relation to the incident, but there have been fines proposed for them. Both counties have up until Friday (March 26) to seek a hearing in relation to the proposals.”

At the outset of 2008 as Galway football entered a decisive new chapter, the Connacht FBD League was utilised intelligently. Liam Sammon's approach saw Galway embrace the challenges with the required passion and zeal to book the considerable bounty of a trip to New York that awaits the winners.
