Turn2Me, a national mental health charity, is offering free online support groups, starting this week and running until the end of June, for students and parents feeling stressed about the Leaving Cert.

Post Leaving Cert courses (PLCs) are specialised courses designed to equip students with practical industry specific skills. PLCs are usually one to two-year module based programmes provided by schools and further education colleges nationwide. Some PLCs offer a placement (work experience) in the specific industry relating to the course.

There is less than a week to go until this year's Leaving Cert class sit down to take the first written paper. It has been a two-year programme like no other in the almost 100-year history of this examination.

As the parent of a 2020 Leaving Cert student, I have every sympathy for the class of 2021 and the uncertainty caused by the continuation of the Covid-19 pandemic for those students and their families. The debate which surfaced in April of last year has already begun in relation to the leaving cert of 2021, and whether the exam should be conducted in the 'traditional' format, or in a 'predicted grades' scenario, similar to last year.
