It only seems like yesterday that rural Ireland was standing up to the Dublin 4 diktat. Luke 'Ming' Flanagan was in the Dáil and the Turf Cutters and Contractors Association was waging a crusade which took rural areas by storm. An Taoiseach, Enda Kenny, announced this week €225,000 worth of funding for three projects in Mayo under the capital investment plan for rural towns and villages. The €225,000 from a €30 million pot nationally will see projects developed in Castlebar, Swinford, and in Geesala.

Applications are being sought for a new fully funded programme aimed at providing early stage Mayo based, female entrepreneurs with the knowledge, support and networking opportunities to advance the development of their businesses. Entitled ACORNS (Accelerating the Creation Of Rural Nascent Start-ups) - the programme is focused on unleashing the potential of female entrepreneurs living in rural Ireland who have recently started a business or who have taken concrete steps towards setting up a business.
