Schools need to look at increasing their security, a local public representative has stated this week following reports by concerned parents to him of persistent bullying and harassment on school grounds.

With the ongoing survival of the Linenhall Arts Centre a matter of serious concern following major cuts to their funding over the past few years, two motions relating to the arts centre found their way on to the agenda for the April meeting of Castlebar Town Council.

The budget for Mayo General Hospital has overrun by more than €2 million for the first seven months of the year, causing fears locally that services will be affected coming into the health service’s busiest time of the year.

This is to be included as a clause on contracts issued to main contractors. The motion received huge support from Cllr Kilcoyne’s fellow councillors this week.
