Ardagh/Crossmolina host successful tournament

So no surprise when last Friday evening, the north Mayo faithful packed the Lahardane community centre to enjoy the finest boxing fare. Setting the tone and the pattern, young Cathal Davis laid the night’s foundation with his solid performance.

Charlestown Vintage Run raises €4k for charity

More than 200 vintage tractors, cars, bikes, lorries and trucks took part in the annual Eugene McLoughlin Charlestown Memorial Run in August this year. The event is etched into the calendar at Charlestown coming in as the second largest event of its kind in Ireland. The committee, made up of family and friends of the late Mr McLoughlin, have their eyes set on it becoming the largest event of its kind in Ireland in August 2017.

The draw for the quarter finals will take place tomorrow in MacHale Park with four seeded sides, Breaffy, Castlebar Mitchels, Ballintubber and Knockmore and the other quartet of qualifiers, Ballaghaderreen, Aghamore, Garrymore and Crossmolina Deel Rovers.

The players and officials have the trivial matters out of the way and will have their match day suits ready for the off and press commitments done and dusted. For them now it's all about focused minds and mentally preparing themselves for the biggest day of their footballing lives.

Hoban in Regions Cup squad

Westport United's David Hoban will be part of the Irish squad that will take part in this Regions Cup in Italy at the end of the month. The United man will make up part of a 18-man squad that have been drawn in a group with Macedonia, Slovenia and Italy. Manulla's Cillian McGlade has been put on standby for the squad. The competition kicks off on September 28 when Ireland take on Italy, they follow that up with a clash with Macedonia on September 30 and then take on Slovenia on October 2.
