CCTV application for Westport submitted to Garda HQ

An application for CCTV for Westport has been forwarded to Garda Headquarters. According to Superintendent Aiden Foley the application has been sent and he hopes to be called to present to the Garda CCTV committee at the next quarterly meeting. However, the superintendent could not give the town’s JPC meeting a date when CCTV would be up and running.

Sculpture launch in Ballyhaunis

A new sculpture by artist Remco De Fouw was officially launched on April 6 by Cathaoirleach Councillor Joe Mellet. The striking art work is in St Gerald’s Court, opposite the church in Ballyhaunis. Many local people turned out on the cold afternoon to meet the artist and attend the unveiling. The artwork, titled Points of View, was commissioned by Mayo County Council’s arts office as part of the ongoing public art commission programme, funded via the Government’s Per Cent for Art scheme.

Proposal for Westport’s Bank of Ireland gardens to be commercially zoned

The contentious issue surrounding the zoning of the privately owned Bank of Ireland garden in Westport was discussed at a special meeting of Westport Town Council last week where councillors were finalising the draft development plan, with a proposal put through which would see the garden zoned for open space and also for commercial development.
