Blaze Bayley is ready to rock Castlebar tomorrow night

Former Iron Maiden and Wolfsbane front-man Blaze Bayley and his band will be making their way to Castlebar tomorrow night May 12 where they will be performing at Castlebar’s new independent music venue The Clubhouse. Blaze Bayley started his musical career as the lead vocalist of Wolfsbane. When Bruce Dickinson departed heavy metal band Iron Maiden in 1993, Blaze Bayley was chosen as his replacement. Following Blaze Bayley's departure from Iron Maiden, he formed his own band, Blaze. In 2000 the band released their debut studio album Silicon Messiah. The album was followed up by Tenth Dimension and the band's first live album, As live as it gets. Tomorrow night he will be coming to The Clubhouse, Castlebar, on his The Kings of Metal tour.

Spectacular progress for children’s project

A researcher has hailed the “spectacular progress” made by a Castlebar-based children’s project and said its work was a model for other countries to follow. “What’s going on here in Mayo is of international significance,” said Professor Howard Stevenson of the University of Lincoln. He was speaking at the open day of MCI, an organisation for young people living with domestic abuse and family conflict in Ireland.

Arts Centre receives major funding blow

The Linenhall, Mayo’s oldest arts centre, has just received a major blow with the news that its funding from the Arts Council has been cut by 20 per cent for this year alone. Overall, the funding has been cut by 38 per cent in the last five years.

St Gerald’s College hosts art exhibition and music recital at the Linenhall

St Gerald’s College Music Department recently staged their second spring recital in the Linenhall Arts Centre. Following the success of last year in the school, it was thought to move to a proper concert setting of the Linenhall Arts Centre. Some 60 sang, played, and danced to a full house.
